About NURISH
What is NURISH?
The Context
NURISH is a Horizon Europe project designed to strengthen climate resilience in rural and small urban communities across various climate affected European territories. Rural areas face increasing vulnerability to extreme climate events such as floods, droughts and heatwaves, together with demographic decline, limited resources and gaps in digital and technical capacities.

NURISH’s vision is to enable a transformative transition toward climate resilient rural futures. This transition is driven by regenerative practices — approaches that strengthen positive cycles between communities and their natural environments — and support long-term well-being and sustainability.

Contributing to the EU Mission
NURISH directly contributes to the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, which aims to help European regions and communities become climate resilient by 2030.
The EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change is a European initiative that supports regions and communities in preparing for and managing the impacts of climate change. Its ambition is to help territories across Europe become climate resilient by 2030, by promoting better understanding of climate risks, strengthening local capacities, encouraging the use of innovative adaptation solutions such as NbS and integrating adaptation into regional and local policies. The Mission also aims to protect ecosystems, support resilient economies and improve the ability of communities to cope with climate impacts .
The project supports this mission by enhancing resilience in vulnerable rural regions, promoting NbS, strengthening local capacities, and encouraging the integration of climate adaptation into existing policies. NURISH also places special emphasis on citizen engagement, enabling local populations to better understand climate risks, take part in decision-making, and contribute to evaluating adaptation solutions. As a result, communities are supported in developing preparedness action plans and pathways for long-term resilience .
